The Legend of the Gilded Griffin Empty The Legend of the Gilded Griffin

Post  Blake Don Wed May 26, 2010 5:00 pm

At a time of great magics of dark and light, a father of five sons decided to train them in the mad art of Blacksmithing, the art he had been studying all his life. He took his five sons to his hut at the edge of the village, where they would create their first weapon of might.

The eldest brother had decided to try first, and it continued in the order of their youth. The youngest made a short sword with marble dragon skulls carved on the blade. The fourth born had also created a short sword, with two aqua blue dragon heads on the sides. The third born made a sword slightly longer then his little brothers', which had a strange fiery relation to the blade of the proud dragon slayer Galanoth. The second eldest had carved out an amazing golden dragon between the silver hilt and blade.

The eldest of the brothers however, was not so fond of dragons as his siblings. He had stuck a Gilded Griffin between the hilt and blade, with strange blue runes on the sides. They were very proud of what they had made, and had kept their blades in their rooms, locked up, for the following month.

On the night of the full moon, their father sent them out into the forest to get some firewood. This was an unwise command for sure.

The five brothers had finally decided to give their blades use, in case of any danger in the forest. For an hour they were chopping wood, talking about the girls back at the village and how they would fall for them if they had shown their blades. When they were all done and had no idea what to converse about, a blinding golden light and a distant roar came from somewhere in the forest. They walked towards it to realize it was a death match between a mother griffin and male dragon. The youngest brother's hand were gripping his blade very tightly. He did not have any idea what he was doing, but he ran into the battle, swinging his sword at the griffin. This was a very stupid and foolish idea, as the moment he stepped in the dragon blew flames in his direction, burning him with a mighty blue inferno. He lay there on the floor, as close to dead as a human being can be. His brothers crowded around him. They knew they were lost, no help, just dark trees. They watched him die, crying their eyes out. "This is your fault! You could have reached him!" The 2nd born said to the eldest. "What? my fault? I was chopping logs behind you guys!" the eldest reasoned out. "Yes, but whatever happens to US is YOUR responsibility! You're the eldest!" the second born shouted.

With no warning, the griffin slashed its huge claw, yet the dragon dodged, causing it to hit the eldest brother. He was staring at his arm, torn open. No blood. No pain. Just gold light shining out of his flesh. He reached into his own arm, and picked out a solid gold coin. He still had his Griffin blade in his right hand, which was shaking. Without even thinking, he threw the sword as hard as he could towards the dragon. “Off with your damn golden head!” he shouted, and that’s what happened. The blade cut straight through, and the dragon’s severed head was rolling across the floor. The Griffin shook his head, with big black eyes pointing dart accurate at the eldest brother.

His brothers all had their jaws opened wide, staring. The griffin bowed, stuck out it’s tongue at licked the eldest brother’s wounded arm… The wound closed, healed. The griffin nodded, and did a sort of half scowl half smile, and flew away into the dark sky. The dead body of the dragon was gone, evaporated into the air itself. The eldest brother’s blade, which had ended up stuck in a treetop, fell with a thump onto the stone floor.

The next sight was amazing, all the brothers (except the youngest) were staring up, as all five blades shot into the sky and span in a circle, as if chasing each other. Their simply crafted blades the transformed into tyrant broadswords, symbols of hope and justice to the world. Then, their tyrant weapons fell on the ground, glowing with colors. The brothers then took up their blades with awe. The eldest, having a wonderfully huge sword with a gilded griffin on the hilt, was amazed. Runes on his blade flashes with bright blue.

His brothers were all jealous of his golden tyrant broadsword, and still mad at him. Suddenly, the second born raised up his weapon towards him, without being warned. The griffon blade then flew up and threw itself to the second born. Without noticing, his head was almost cut into half, leaving a scratch on his neck. The eldest then said, "What were you trying to do, brother!?". "It's your fault our youngest brother died!", the second born screamed. "What!? Are you MAD!? it was not my faul--" when suddenly his brother raised up his sword and slashed through the air, yet he dodged. He ran to his blade and he and his brother started fighting. The other brothers joined in to prove the eldest wrong. It was almost dawn and they were still up, fighting. The mother griffin was watching them fight since the time the blades had been transformed. She wasn't happy. The griffin then flew down to end the fight. She took the eldest and flew away as fast as she could. The mother griffin took him to a beautiful place. The griffin smiled again at the eldest, and flew away.

Some months later, the eldest then set up his own house. He was happy about how beautiful where he is now, but not happy about his brothers. He was worried about them. Some day later, he set up his own forge, and crafted a new armor. The armor was trimmed with gold and had a griffin's image on the shoulder plate. He wore his new armor and saved countless lives. The three brothers, however, still mourned for the youngest brother. Still angry, they crafted themselves some armor, identical to their own blade.

One day, the four brothers met in the center of the Earth. The eldest brother, having 2 knights with him, stared at his brothers. "Let's battle!", the second born said. The eldest can't stand his brothers and their evil ways. So they fought for centuries and centuries.

Until now, they are still fighting, giving a balance to this world.

    Chapter Two
The Gilded Griffins of the North

The wind was strong and the clouds were dark. Cyrus (pronounced like Sirus) was out over at the hill watching the sun set over the horizon. He saw the ocean waves slowly rolling towards the shore. He caught a flock of birds fly past him and towards the sky.

Yes, the small village of GriffinClaw was such a beautiful place.

Cyrus got up and started heading to his house. A few months back, he took up an apprentice. The apprentice was a young and pretty girl named Aria. She was not the best but she made good weapons. Since she didn’t have a place to stay, he let her stay in his house.

When he arrived, he saw Aria sleeping in her bed. He could imagine how tired she was after a long day! He quietly went to his room and closed the lights.

The next day, he got up and saw Aria making breakfast.
“Why are you cooking?” said Cyrus.
“Well, after all you have taught me, I decided to reward your hard work by making you breakfast!” replied Aria with her usual cheery voice.
“You didn’t have to cook me breakfast Aria, but it’s very kind of you to,” he replied.

After breakfast Cyrus had to go get some supplies from Battleon, which was just a couple miles away.

“Take care Aria! I’ll be back by tomorrow!” exclaimed Cyrus.
“Okay bye Cyrus!” shouted Aria from the window.

He went out and took one last look at GriffinClaw. After that, he set out for Battleon.

On his way to Battleon, Cyrus decided to go to the glade of the Mother Griffin.
Even though the glade was a little out of the way he still had to go and greet the Griffin since she saved his life from his brothers.

He went through the trees and climbed a slightly steep hill. When he got to the top of the hill, a shocking sight met him.
There lay the mother griffin, dead on the blood-stained grass. On its neck was a large open wound. The wound showed signs that it was attacked by a sword, and not by an ordinary sword.

Cyrus fell down to his knees. He was too sad and angry to speak. Tears formed in his eyes and he cried softly. He slammed his fist into the ground and shouted at the top of his lungs.

After a few minutes, he got up. He heard footsteps. There was someone, or something, sneaking up behind him. Then, without warning, a sword slashed. Cyrus dodged and unsheathed his own sword and got into battle stance. He glanced towards the attackers..

In front of him, were 3 figures. The first one, taller than the others, held a large tyrant broadsword similar to his. Except it had and evil glow and a dragon head was at the hilt.
Then next one was a little shorter than the first and also held a broadsword, but a little smaller than the other one. The sword also had a Dragon carving.
The last one was the shortest. He held a longsword, but as Cyrus looked closely, it was a small broadsword, also with dragons at the hilt.

He then realized who the attackers were. They were his brothers.
Who else would kill a Griffin?

“It has been quite awhile since we last saw you Cyrus,” said his second eldest brother named Leucos.
“We came to kill you,” said Jon, the third eldest.
“We came to avenge our youngest brother!” said Drake, who was now the youngest brother after the youngest one’s death 6 months ago.

“I told you several times! It isn’t my fault!” shouted Cyrus at his brothers.
“I told YOU that whatever happens to US is YOUR responsibility!” replied Leucos.

    Cyrus didn’t reply.

Angry at his brothers for their evil ways, he ran towards them with his sword at hand. The battle had begun.

Cyrus started attacking Leucos. He dodged and countered with an attack.
Cyrus blocked the oncoming blow but was immediately attacked by Jon. Jon missed and attacked again, but was blown away by a magic blast from Cyrus. Jon then fainted.

Drake charged towards Cyrus but he dodged the attack by jumping high into the air. Cyrus then cut off Drake’s hand. He screamed and fell unconscious.

“Curse you Cyrus!” muttered Leucos. He was alone now. Both his brother’s were unconscious.
“You have taken away our trust in you! You are not our brother anymore! The next time we meet. An evil will rise. An evil so powerful, that fear will be placed in everyone’s hearts! Soon I shall rule the world!” shouted Leucos as he teleported him and his younger brothers away.

Cyrus was now left alone. Alone in anger and sadness…
He sat down on the grass. He looked at the dead carcass of the Mother Griffin.

He clenched his fist and started to say something.

“I cannot let the Griffin’s death left unpunished,” uttered Cyrus under his breath.

But what will he do? It’s not like he can just go against his brothers, who are probably gathering a whole army just to kill him, alone.

He put the thought aside and saw it was nighttime. He started heading once more to Battleon. It was a long and arduous journey, considering how tired he was.
He arrived at Battleon very early in the morning. The moon was about to set. He went to the inn and got some rest.

Then 7 hours later, he woke up. Although he was still tired, he went down to Yulgar, an expert blacksmith, for materials.

“Well good mornin’ Cyrus! You don’t seem as happy as usual.” said Yulgar with his deep and low voice.
“Don’t worry Yulgar, it’s nothing. Just had a long day yesterday,” replied Cyrus drowsily.
“Well, good luck with the rest of yer day. Here are your materials.” said Yulgar as he handed Cyrus all his materials.”

He thanked Yulgar and went out of the inn. As he got out, he saw a parchment note nailed on the wall of the inn. He took one and read it.

Defend Battleon from the evil that threatens it!
Become a guardian and help us protect what is dear to everyone.
Go to Guardian Tower now to apply.

Cyrus thought about what he just read.
If he joined the Guardians, he would be able to fight for what is right.

But he wouldn’t be able to return to is hometown.

Then, an idea lit up in his head.

“From this day forth! A Clan will uprise to protect, to defend, and to serve those in need! I will defend Lore, from the Evil of my Brothers! But not only theirs, I shall defend lore from all evil! I will fight, for what is right!” exclaimed Cyrus.

He went up to the hill and unsheathed his sword. He pointed it into the air. As the wind blew strongly he shouted,

“In honor of all Griffins! I shall name my clan. The Gilded Griffins of the North!”

And thus, the Gilded Griffins of the North, came to be.

    Chapter Three
    The Howling Wind

If there is a sentence to describe the preparations Cyrus made for his Clan, it would be “Easier said than done.”
The wind was unusually strong and the night was cold. Cyrus sat alone near a camp fire in the middle of the DoomWood. Although the fire was strong, it was still very cold. It has been only two Days since he left BattleOn to get his materials from Yulgar. And of all places, he was lost in the middle of the DoomWood.

“At least it can’t get any worse” said Cyrus. He rubbed his palms together so he can get a little warmth.

In a few minutes, he fell asleep. The wolves howled before the Full Moon. The wind continued to blow through the night. The bitter howl of the wind shook even the strongest of oak trees. This showed a bad sign of a misbalance in the Elements.

The next day, Cyrus woke up with the howling of the wind. This is strange. He thought. The wind never blows on for more than a day here.
He packed his stuff and he set foot once more for FalconReach. There, he would gather some workers so he can work on building a tower of his own. Before he left BattleOn, he sent a letter to Aria, his apprentice, about what he would be doing so she won’t worry about him.

Light greeted him as he exited the abyss of the Doomwood. Even at day, these woods would still be pitch black. But to his dismay, the wind was still strong.

And even more saddening, it did get worse. A few feet before him stood a group of wind elementals. They were creating a powerful storm! They formed a huge circle and they were all chanting a weird phase. Cyrus could barely understand it. They seemed to be summoning something. He saw soft beautiful feathers falling in the middle of the circle.

“Griffin Feathers…” muttered Cyrus in awe, yet he feared something bad would happen. Sure enough, the Griffin feathers caught a strange black fire. A strange portal opened beneath the feathers. Then a shadow of a huge griffin started to form. Dark Tentacles stretched out and the sky started to blacken. Lightning struck several times, and when it struck, Cyrus started to reach for his sword. The Darkness then melted off the Griffin’s Skin, and there he saw, a large, undead Griffin.

The death of the Mother Griffin set a great misbalance in the Wind elements, Cyrus thought.
The Wind Elementals stopped chanting, and they disappeared into the howl of the wind.
The Great Undead Griffin roared and sent blasts of wind towards Cyrus. He was blown away and he hit the tree. He got up and took unsheathed his sword.
I do not wish to do this, but I have a feeling I must…

He started running towards the Griffin and he slashed but to no avail, he missed and was hit by the Griffin’s Claw. He fell and felt the warm trickle of blood on his arm. He ignored it and charged once more to the Griffin. He dodged the Griffin oncoming attack and he sliced the Griffin’s leg. The leg fell off and the Griffin staggered for a little while and regained balance.

Cyrus jumped into the air and he aimed for the griffin’s wing, but the wing struck him directly on the head. He was knocked away once more. He ignored the pain that was in his arm. He ran towards the Griffin again and spinned around and threw his sword at the Griffin’s wings. It hit the first and his sword came back to slice off the second. The Griffin then roared in pain. It then sent a dark energy blast towards Cyrus, but he was able to dodge it. His sword began to glow and he fired a Holy Beam of Light towards the Griffin’s Head. It struck dead center. The Undead Griffin then fell to pieces.

The Sky started to brighten and the bones started to fade away into the abyss. Cyrus, severely wounded, knelt down. He cast a spell and he healed his wounds. The wind stopped howling, and all that was left was Cyrus and a small shining object a few feet away from him. He got up, and slowly walked to it. It was a small drop of golden water on then grass. It was a Griffin’s Tear. It glowed and it became a ball of light. It went directly towards Cyrus’ Sword. It shined and the Blade started to morph. He changed shape and became the Griffin Mega Blade!

Although he healed his wounds, Cyrus was weak due to blood loss and fainted shortly after his sword changed.

A few hours later, a group of traveling bards who were on their way to FalconReach came by.

“Hm what is this?” said the first Bard.
“A human in the middle of this clearing?” said the second/
“Ho ho! Look at this sword! This shall sell for a large amount of gold my friends!” said the third Bard.
He picked up the sword and examined it. It was heavy but he was able to carry it. Blue runes were inscribed on the blade. On the hilt, he saw a Golden Griffin standing up. The whole blade shined in golden light. He suddenly dropped it, a shot of pain went to his arms and he screamed. After he recovered, the all just decided to bring Cyrus on a donkey. They didn’t even know why they did it.

The Bards saw FalconReach at the edge of the Horizon and shouted in joy.

    The Legacy continues…
